Small but beautifully formed, Villaricos (Rich Village) nestles on a charming and tranquil port only ten kilometres from the main port of Garrucha. Its name derived from the silver mines in the area which were heavily mined, and the silver used to pay Hannibal’s mercenaries when they besieged Rome.
With many restaurants, cafes, shops, diving schools…there is something for everyone. There are quality new urbanisations currently under construction, which have been carefully planned to fit into the local way of life. A busy little fishing port, many local fishermen go out daily bringing back the catch and selling it to the local restaurants whilst having a quick tipple to keep them going.
Villaricos has one of the nicest beaches in the area, with turquoise blue waters and a wind sheltered cove. Excellent for relaxing and reading a book or for the more energetic, the diving in the area is some of the best.
