Vícar is set on the southern slopes of the Sierra de Gádor. It is essentially a farming town specialising in harvestable crops. As a result of the enormous increase in crop growing the number of inhabitants has increased proportionately as has tourism. With a newly developed urbanisation and the addition of a golf course at La Envia it is a very desirable area within in a wonderful tranquil setting. Good health services, education up to age 18 years, sports centre and good transport and road connections makes this a good location for holidays and living alike.
The village is divided into several distinct areas, Vícar Viejo, La Puebla de Vícar, La Gangosa, Cabanillas and Llanos de Vícar, all with their own character. The parish Church of San Benito, built in the Mudejar style is central to the village. Built in the 16th century, restored in the mid 18th century and still displaying the coat of arms of Bishop Antoni Corrionero, it has a bell tower once used as a military tower, make it well worth a look.

The Puente (bridge) de los Poyos. An arch with a span of ten metres, which crosses the Rambla de Carcauz at a height of more than 16 metres.

Ajoblanco, Ajo colorao, Migas (fried bread with garlic and spicy sausage). Olla (stew). Sardines on a skewer. Arroz a banda (Rice with squid ink)
