A seaside resort, Vera playa is probably better known for one of the largest Naturist beaches in the area. Only 10 years ago, this area was primarily a desert with little or no tourism to speak of. It is now a bustling area with many bars, restaurants and luxury hotels, including the Vera Play Club Hotel. A naturist hotel where every day life and naturism truly co-exist.
As a result of being primarily a desert area, the beach, some 8km long, with white sand is ideal for children. It was awarded the prestigious blue flag for the quality and purity of the beach despite the historical nuclear disaster.
In 1966 a collision between an American bomber and a tanker aircraft occurred with catastrophic consequences. The bomber was carrying four thermo-nuclear devises. An international search a recovery was mounted and 3 of the bombs were found. It took a local fisherman to help this international team to locate the final bomb. A massive clean up operation was undergone and the area has been declared safe for many years.
On the outskirts of the town, there is a water park, Parque Acuático de Vera, with exciting rides on flumes, slides and a wave machine.
Vera Playa is fast becoming the place to go, with so many things to do and see and within a short drive of airports and small local winding villages is has so much for everyone.
