Uleila del Campo is a small symmetrical group of buildings set in the foothills of the Filabres surrounded by almond and olive trees. Being close to the desert its beauty spots have been the location for many films.
It history, as with much of Spain is turbulent. At the beginning of the Al-Andalus period, the Berbers from the Sahara occupied this area until the Christian conquest in 1488. After the war of Alpujarras in 1568 the Moors were forced to leave and the repopulation of the area can be traced to just 10 families.
The small population primarily makes a living from agriculture, principally from the olive and almond trees in the area.
