San José is a delightfully small fishing village with two harbours, one
for fishing and the other for pleasure craft. Located in the
Parque Natural it is a unique village with no high-rise developments.
Beautifully formed around a small shallow bay San José has one of the
finest beaches on the Cabo de Gata. For a more unusual beach, the Playa
del Mónsul only 2.5 kilometres away is well worth a visit, with its
fine grey sand and oddly shaped volcanic rock formations is a little
bit like being on the moon.
Although a small village there is plenty to do, the local tourist
information office can help with accommodation and bookings for local
pursuits such as horse riding, fishing, boat trips, land rover tours
and windsurfing.
