Cantoria is situated in the Almanzora valley, on the fertile plain, next to the river. It is also in the marble zone, which provides its principle economic resource, the town being home to one of the largest marble companies in the province of Almería. Its second resource is its agriculture.
The abandonment of the old town –on the opposite side of the river- 16th century Cantoria was built to a formal plan of straight streets and uniform houses, above which the Parish Church rises.
