Palomares village is a mixture of traditional Spanish houses and new apartments. The village has various shops, restaurants, bars and banks and a Sunday market. Within walking distance of the village is a stretch of sandy beach with 2 Spanish beach bars offering food and drink during the peak season. A short car ride away en-route to San Juan are a number of rocky coves, often deserted during the summer months. Within easy reach of Palomares are the towns of villaricos with its picturesque marinas, Garrucha which offers a large sandy beach, numerous shops and restaurants and a thriving fishing port. Mojacar Playa is the main tourist resort which is 20 mins drive away, bustling during the peak season and has an abundance of restaurants, bars, sandy beaches and water sports. San Juan de los Terreros with its long stretch of gently sloping beach and numerous beach bars is also a short drive away of approx 15 mins.

Other tourist attractions with in the area include a water park, karting, horse-riding and sports centre with tennis, padel, squash, gymnasium etc. Golf courses include the famous Desert Springs, Valle del Este, Playa Maceanas and Marina de la Torre. The historic towns of Vera, Cuevas del Almanzora and Mojacar Pueblo are almost certainly worth viewing.
