The inland town of Antas, in the eastern part of the province of Almería, is situated in the basin of the River Aguas. It is mainly an agricultural town and, surrounded by the Filabres and Bédar mountains, the river irrigates its orchards of fruit and citrus trees, and its fields of lettuce and barley.
Its history as a settlement goes back to Neolithic times. Bronze Age and Roman remains have also been found.
